1. Herbarium
The Herbarium under the name BGIR is being developed to serve as a national repository of threatened plants of the country. It also houses specimens of representative plant elements of the National Capital Territory region and BGIR. The herbarium would be part of the laboratory complex that will provide the necessary infrastructural facilities for conservation research.
2.Seed Bank
There is a Seed bank located near the zone 4 and 5 established in April 2006.The main objective of the bank is to collect and store the seeds collected from the garden and procured from different places in India. The bank is also engaged in seed germination, collection of seedlings (including endemic and threatened plants), quality evaluation, storage, and developing seed data base of indigenous plant species introduced in the garden. number of seeds …… some important species
3.Taxonomy Garden
This has representative plants arranged according to the Bentham & Hooker classification system. It would serve to popularise the subject of taxonomy.
4.NurseryThe five nurseries have been developed primarily for acclimatization of introduced indeginous trees, herbs and shrubs from different parts of India.Of these four nurseries in a cluster also serves for Propogation and multiplication of tree species, ornamental as well as research targeted plants. the saplings developed here by the botanic garden are also distributed locally.
5. Composting Unit
A vermi-compost demonstration project has also been implemented to support the organic manure requirement as well as to demonstrate the concept of biowaste management.Include process ?
1.Library
The Library has a good collection of books and journals. It holds about 1500 books and 35 journals mainly on floristic, taxonomy, ecology, horticulture, environmental sciences and other disciplines of life sciences like Algae, Fungi, Lichens, Bryophytes, Pteridophytes, Ethnobotany, Medicinal plants and Forestry. It also contains the Monumental work of J.D. Hooker’s “The Flora of British India” and pictorial books on garden plants.
