Internationally known by the acronym – BSD, the herbarium of the Circle started from the scrap, unlike some other Circles which inherited previous historic collections, has gradually developed into one of the major center's of taxonomic and floristic research in North India and is recognized by various Universities for research leading to the award of Ph.D. Degree. At present it houses c. 1,07,380 accessioned specimens, including 112 Types, and few hundreds of thousands of duplicates mainly for exchange. Besides, there are about 3,248 specimens received on exchange from countries like France, U.K., U.S.A., Japan and erstwhile U.S.S.R. Apart from that the herbarium also houses over 9,620 specimens of Algae, Fungi and Bryophytes.
