Herbarium specimens serve as material base for taxonomic research leading to writing floras and consolidating various taxa through revisions. The Botanical Survey of India,Industrial Section Indian Museum(BSIS) possess about 70,000 herbarium specimens mainly from economically important plants. Out of which 9100 herbarium sheets were digitized to develope virtual herbarium for easy access and to promote taxonomic research.
