Internationally known by acronym- BSA, it is one of the major centers of taxonomic and floristic research in Central India and is recognized for research leading to the award of Ph.D. Degree. At present it houses c. 65,932 specimens and several thousand of duplicates meant mainly for exchange. Besides, the herbarium also houses over 1700 Pteridophytes and 1400 specimens of Lichens.
